The present application claims the priority right of Taiwanese application serial number 91215159 filed September 25, 2002.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates generally to a neck strap of a portable device, and more particularly to a neck strap of a portable device that can be quickly disconnected to protect the user without damaging the user's neck when a external force exerted on the user exceeds a safety zone.
Related state of the art of the invention
To provide ease of use and portability of the conventional portable electronic devices such as the cellular telephone, a neck cord is frequently used to enable the user to wear such a cellular telephone. The cellular telephone is hung on the neck cord, and the neck cord is typically hung around the user's neck.
If the neck cord is hanging around the neck, this cord easily becomes entangled with the machine under certain specific circumstances such as walking in an environment full of machines or factory equipment. The incorrect stretch movement of the neck cord can injure the neck of the user or even endanger the life of the user.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a neck cord of a portable device, in particular a neck cord with a rapid release unit. The rapid release unit is coupled between the neck and the portable device. When an external force exerted on the neck cord exceeds a safety area, the quick release unit is quickly released to protect the user. The quick release unit will not injure the user's neck.
The rapid release unit coupled between the neck and the portable device is designed without having to take ergonomics into account and without limiting the shape. Furthermore, since the direction of the external force exerted on the rapid decoupling unit is linear, the problem of the pull force angle does not exist. As a result, the actual safety range of the strain is identical to the strain specification as designed.
The neck cord of a portable device in the present invention includes a neck disengaging rapid release unit to which the portable device can be hung, so that the user wearing the neck cord will not feel uncomfortable due to the contact of the rapid disconnect unit.
The design of the neck strap of a portable device is flexible. The exterior can be designed in accordance with specific requirements of customers. For example, the neck cord is more competitive when the quick release unit is configured with the manufacturer's trademark, the customer's logo, the popular cartoon character, or a unique shape.
The neck cord provided by the present invention includes a quick release unit that is not in contact with the user's neck, so that when the quick release unit is released or broken by an external force, the safety area, the neck of the user will not be injured.
In the present invention, a neck cord is provided that carries a portable device and is hung around a user's neck. The neck cord comprises a part that touches the neck and a part that does not touch the neck. A quick release unit is provided in the part that does not touch the neck. When the external force exerted on the neck cord exceeds a safety area, the quick release unit is disengaged to remove the neck cord from the user's neck.
In one embodiment, the neck cord mentioned above further comprises one microphone, one earphone, one pair of earphones, one microphone and one earphone, or one microphone and one pair of earphones. The microphone and earphone are applied to a communication system such as the cellular telephone, an audio system such as the MP3 player, an AM / FM radio, a personal data assistant (PDA), a CD player, an MD (mini disc) player , or a digital sound distribution player ((digital audio broadcasting (DAB) player)). The microphone and the earphone are electrically connected to the portable device, whereby the portable device can transmit an audio signal or an audio signal, so that the user can listen to the audio or audio signal. The microphone is used to transfer the sound from the user to the portable device.
Furthermore, an electrical wire is provided in the above neck cord to connect the microphone and the earphone, or pair of earphones, to the portable device. In one embodiment of the present invention, the electrical wire is embedded in a portion of the neck cord to be connected to the portable device. Preferably, the rapid disconnection unit is disposed in the non-touching portion between the position where the electrical wire is embedded in the neck cord and the neck of the user.

Figure 2 shows the user who wears the neck cord as shown in Figure 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The present invention provides a neck cord of a portable electronic device, in particular a neck cord with a rapid release unit. The quick release unit is located between the neck and the portable device. When an external force for stretching the neck cord exceeds a safety area, the rapid release unit is immediately disconnected from the neck cord to protect the user without injuring the user's neck.
With reference to Figure 1, the structure of the neck cord is illustrated in one embodiment of the present invention. The neck cord 120 can be used to carry a portable device 110 such as a cellular telephone, a personal digital assistant, an MP3 player, an AM / FM radio, a CD player, an MD player, or a digital sound distribution player. The neck cord 120 comprises a first part A, which is the part touching the neck, and a second part B, which is a part that does not touch the neck. The neck-contacting portion A is in contact with the user's neck when the user wears the neck cord 120. Meanwhile, the part B not touching the neck is not in contact with the user's neck. The non-contacting part B is connected to the portable device 110 via a connection terminal 112.
In this embodiment, a rapid release unit 150 is mounted on the neck-non-touching portion B. The rapid release unit 150 is located on a connecting portion between the neck and the portable electronic device 110 (the non-touching portion B). When an external force exerted to stretch the neck cord 120 exceeds a safety area, the quick release unit 150 is quickly disengaged from the neck cord 120 to protect the user. The quick release unit 150 will not injure the user's neck. The safety area can be adjusted according to specific design specifications. The rapid release unit 150 comprises, for example, a clamp. Within the safety range, the quick release unit 150 will not disengage from the neck cord 120. When the user wears the neck cord 120, the quick release unit 150 can prevent the user's neck from being injured by the excessive external force.
In the case that the quick release unit is located on the part A which touches the neck, in particular near the center of the neck, although the quick release unit may be hidden so that it cannot be seen, many problems may occur, as described below.
The most important point is the safety consideration. If the neck strap supports the weight of the portable device, the quick release unit will be closed in contact with the user's neck while it is in the middle of the neck. The close contact requires that the quick release unit be designed either with an arc shape or with a flat shape according to ergonomic insights. The geometric constraint induces the difference between the actual safety range and the manufacturing limit safety range of the strain. Furthermore, the angle variation for touching the user's neck leads to the difference in force for rapid disconnection, so that the safety specification differs from the actual application. The manufacturer is responsible for any accident caused by the difference while the user is in danger. Furthermore, the quick release unit in the neck easily becomes entangled with the hair of the user. This causes discomfort and can easily injure the user.
The second point is the health of the user. Since the quick release unit can withstand a stretch force within the safety range without coming off, the material to make the quick release unit must be rigid. Therefore, the contact between the quick release unit and the user's neck, especially when the user is wearing the neck cord and walking around, will irritate the user's skin. More serious is that the contact friction will hurt the skin of the neck and cause allergy or infection of the skin. Furthermore, contact friction will cause scratches in the skin and this will cause the skin to burn easily through the sun.
Regarding the design, the quick release unit that touches the skin of the neck must be designed based on ergonomic considerations. The appearance of the quick release unit is limited to arc shape to avoid user inconvenience. The appearance of the rapid release unit is therefore very limited without any unique design.
Regarding the problem of breaking, the quick release unit can withstand a certain stretching force without being disconnected. Therefore, the material for forming the quick release unit must be sufficiently hard or rigid. The tight attachment of the quick release unit in the neck will be disconnected or even break when the external force exceeds the safety range. The user's neck is therefore easily injured by breaking the quick-release unit.
In contrast, the provision of the quick release unit to the neck B non-contacting portion of the neck cord has the following advantages.
Regarding safety, since the quick release unit 150 is arranged between the neck and the portable device 110, the design of the quick release unit 150 is not limited by ergonomics as well as the shape. Furthermore, since the external force exerted on the quick release unit 150 is linear, no strain angle related problem is caused. Therefore, the actual safety area of the stretching force is identical to the designed safety area. The safety standard specified by the manufacturer is therefore met. The manufacturer is free from the responsibility of inconsistent performance, while the life of the user is not endangered by the use of the neck strap. Furthermore, the quick release unit 150 will not become entangled with the hair of the user because it is provided on both sides of the user.
For the sake of health, the quick release unit 150 is not in close contact with the neck. Therefore, even if the user has to walk around while wearing the neck cord, no discomfort will be caused by wearing the quick release unit 150.
In terms of design, this is very flexible by arranging the quick release unit 150 between the neck and the portable device 110. While designing the internal structure of the quick release unit 150, the outer shape of the neck cord 120 can be considered taken. Furthermore, the position of the quick release unit 150 easily attracts the attention of others. Therefore, the quick release unit 150 can be designed with a characteristic feature requested by the customer. For example, the quick disconnect unit 150 can be made with a specific configuration such as the manufacturer's trademark, company logo, cartoon character or other unique shape to become more competitive.
Regarding breaking, the quick release unit 150 can withstand a certain stretching force without being released. Therefore, the material for forming the quick release unit must be sufficiently hard or rigid. Since the fast
If the release unit 150 is not in contact with the user's neck, the user's neck will not be injured by breaking it.
In Figure 1, accessories may be added as needed by the portable device 110 carried by the neck cord 120. For example, the above neck cord 120 may further comprise a single microphone, a single earphone, a pair of earphones, a microphone plus an earphone, or a microphone and a pair of earphones. The accessories include the microphone and earphone of the communication system such as a cellular telephone. Alternatively, the accessory includes the audio system's earphones such as the MP3 player, AM / FM radio, PDA, CD player, MD player, or DAB player. The above microphone and earphone are electrically connected to the portable device 110, through which the portable device 110 can transmit an audio or audio signal, and the user can listen to the audio signal or enjoy the audio signal. The microphone is used to transfer the sound from the user to the portable device 110.
In one embodiment of the present invention, when the portable device 110 in the neck cord 120 as shown in Figure 1 is a cellular telephone, a microphone 130 and an earphone 140 may be included. An electrical wire 134 extends from the position 132 of the neck cord 120. The length of the electrical wire 134 is designed according to specific requirements. The electrical wire 134 between the position 132 of the neck cord 120 and the portable device 110 is embedded in the neck cord 120, and the position 132 extends to the connection terminal 112 for connection to the portable device 110. As the portable device 110 is a portable audio device such as an MP3 player or an AM / FM radio, another earphone 142 is added. The embodiment is also suitable for the current integrated portable digital device of the cellular telephone and audio equipment.
Taking into account the electrical wire 134 of the microphone 130 and the earphone 140, the quick release unit 150 of the neck cord 120 can be provided on the neck B not touching the position B from the position 132 to the neck. Without taking into account the issue of electrical connection, the rapid disconnecting unit 150 can be positioned on any part of the neck B not touching.
With reference to Figure 2, the user 200 wearing the neck cord 220 is shown. The neck cord 200 can be used to carry a portable device 210 such as a cellular telephone, a PDA, an MP3 player, and an AM / FM radio. The neck cord 220 includes a first portion 222, i.e., the portion that touches the neck, and a second portion 224, i.e., the portion that does not touch the neck. The part 222 that touches the neck hangs around the neck of the user 200, while the part 224 that does not touch the neck is not in contact with the user 200. The part 224 that does not touch the neck is connected to the portable device 210 via a connection terminal.
If the portable device 210 carried by the neck cord 200, as shown in Figure 2, is a cellular telephone, the neck cord 200 further comprises a microphone 240 and an earphone 250. An electrical wire 230 is embedded at a position of the neck cord 220 and is connected to the portable device 210. If the portable device 210 is a portable audio device such as an MP3 player or an AM / FM player, another earphone 255 is added. The embodiment is suitable for the integrated portable digital device that integrates the cellular telephone and the audio device.
The neck cord 220 includes a quick release unit 265 in the portion 222 that does not touch the neck. The actual position of the rapid release unit 265 is determined in accordance with specific requirements. The quick release unit 265 is located on the connecting part (the part 222 that does not touch the neck) between the neck and the portable electronic device 210. When an external force is exerted above a safety area to stretch the neck cord 220, the quick release unit 265 becomes quickly disconnected to protect user safety. The quick release unit 265 will not injure the user's neck. The design of the safety zone can be adjusted in accordance with design specifications. The quick release unit 265 includes a clip that will not come loose when the stretching force is within the safety range. When the user wears the neck cord 220, the quick release unit 265 will protect the user's neck so that it is not injured by the external force.
Other embodiments of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from the consideration of the description and practice of the invention disclosed herein. The description and examples are intended to be construed as examples only, the true scope and spirit of the invention being indicated by the following claims.
